Rear windshield wiper question

First I'd like to thank the people that responded to my previous thread. I have another question. I have a 2000 for explorer xlt. How come whenever I use my rear windshield wiper, it gets jammed with the window. I've tried just about everything to fix it from bending the wiper to trying to close the window even tighter. Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

Here is the deal. I have spent many rainy days out at my trunk trying to get this dam rear windshield wiper to work. If the arm and wiper are not bent enough, then it does not clear any part of the rear window. If it is bent too much, then it gets stuck. I do not know what ford was thinking with the new wiper arm. I have had two explorers (a 99 and an 00) and both have this problem. My brothers 98 also had this problem along with my fathers 99. I think i have come up with a solution, though, if you are willing to spend the money. If you are good with your hand, you might be able to do this installation by yourself. I have noticed that some new explorer sports, possibly a 03', have a wiper that is attached to the rear glass, as in the X5, or RX330, or any station wagon. Thus, since it is resting on the glass, it does not get stuck in between the glass and the gate. The rear glass of the new sport will fit into a 4 door tailgate, however, the tailgates themselves are not interchangable, due to a slightly different taillight shape. So, if you go to your ford dealer, and order the rear glass with wiper from a new sport, and install it in place of the old rear glass, you will then have a wiper that works all the time. However, you will need to take out the old wiper, and the help of a body shop might be handy in sealing up the small hole the wiper arm will leave in the tail gate. If this option does not suit you, try rain X. That is what I have been doing.

Rear Wiper Fix

Same problem on my 98 XLT. If you loosen the nut on the wiper arm, you can raise the wiper arm to a resting position that sits ABOVE the space in between the rear window glass and tailgate where it typically gets stuck. It may take a few attempts of raising the arm to the best position, but once you find the correct angle, fully tighten the nut.
