Flywheel Question???
My car 97 vr4 and it has 69500 miles on it and i am just about to put in my new clutch and the people that are puting my clutch in are also going to resurface my flywheel. I was wondering how long after u change your clutch do u have to change my flywheel. I was thinkin if its going to be in Couple of thousands of miles till the flywheel is going to go out then i should change it right now so i dont have to pay for labor 2 times. But if its going to last me about 10k, 20k miles then i am just going to wait till i have more money then and change it.
I am planing to not drive the car hard anymore. My main question is how long after i change my clutch, when do i have to change my flywheel. and also what would u guys do, wait or do it right now. The way i think about it is that if i dont need to change the flywheel right now and i can wait, then i would put that $500 for something else for my car then later on when i need the flywheel, i would by one. My last questoin is that how much perfromance wise is the flywheel is going to help me. |

Just get it resurfaced...a lighter flywheel can give you a few more hp, but it also changes the profile of your car...it will rev quicker and drop revs quicker...this also depends on if you get a 12lb or an 8lb and so forth. I'd just get the flywheel resurfaced.

agreed with Igovert, just get your stock flywheel resurfaced. an upgraded flywheel won't net you much power. some say you even LOSE power b/c there is less momentum of rotating mass when shifting...yada yada. And what's all this talk about REPLACING your flywheel? that's bullcrap if someone tells you to replace it. you shouldn't ever need to replace it.

I agree flywheels dont need replacing as a part of scheduled maintenance, they last the life of the car normally. If you want the quicker revs, then you get a lighter flywheel i guess.
