86 crx upgrade
just bought a 86 crx for my wife. it runs ok for 210,000 miles, but has some suspension issues. where can I find a bushing kit. also need motormounts, and would be interested in a slight performance suspension (don't want to make speed bumps into road blocks). Also want to upgrade wheels and tires. thinking 17", what specs?? (backspace and width for wheels, size for tires) I don't want to spend a fortune, just make it more fun. in about a year, she gets a new car, and I get to turn the crx into a scca car to run at thunderhill.
Thanks Darin |

I'm just looking for a little advice here. I have the mechanical knowledge to do most anything needed, just have no experience with anything like this little car. All my 20 years experience is with airplanes, big diesels, and American V-8's. Right now I have more on my plate than I want, so I really can't dedicate more to research. Please help.
Thanks, Darin |

Re: 86 crx upgrade
well there is a link in my sig line for suspension. motor mounts, not really sure on that one. what do you need them for? try your local honda dealer, same for the bushing kit. auto parts stores carry that stuff too sometimes and they will be cheaper there.
ps search the forum, and check redpepperracing.com

Re: 86 crx upgrade
My advise... don't get 17" wheels! Especially if you want to turn the car into an SCCA car. Smaller is better for a race car, 15"s would be the biggest you'd want to use. Smaller wheels require less torque to get them turnning, and have less weight. 38mm-40mm would be the average backspacing you'd want to use.
Check with energy suspension for a polygraphite bushing kit. These kits can be ordered through your local performance shop or independent auto supply stores and can also be found on Ebay. The same shop/store should be able to supply the motor mounts. You can find Tokico Illumina struts on Ebay for a decent price, or if you prefer, check out OPM autosports. http://www.opmautosports.com/product...ccrx84_87.html |
