1993 Ford Explorer gas gauge question
Hi:
I have a 1993 Ford explorer, 4 door, 4wd, with 160K miles, abs, ac, ps, pb. recently I had to replace the gas tank because of rust around the inlet. The new one was installed, and the gas gauge quit working. The shop checked the sending unit and it was fine, they said the gauge was bad and replaced it, still the same problem. we have checked the gauge, the ground, continuity from sending unit to gauge and still nothing. has anyone run into this problem? thanks |

Could Be the Floater in the Gas Tank
Tell your Mechanic to check and see if the Floater inside the Fuel tank works.Make sure it's a "new Fuel Tank" cause if it's used then it probably doesn't have a working Floater...If not it could be a short with the wires connecting to the Fuel gauge. I had the Exact same problem. Try and let me Know.

I had the same thing happen to my 94 about 2 years ago. Shop wanted ~300 to drop the tank again and check it out. Wasn't worth it to me. I have been using the trip odometer ever since. Around 300 miles and it is time to fill up again.
