Question Brake Pad light - intermittent

The Brake Pad light comes on and off - I have had the front and the rear pads replaced, but still with no luck. Do I need to get the computer reset by VW or is there an easier and less costly route?

Also, how do I reset the 'service now' light? I have had it serviced, but the mechanic could not reset the ligth indicator.

The car is a VW Passet tdi - 130 bhp - UK 2001 model - Thanks.

Firstly check all fuses-Secondly there maybe a faulty connection between the plug and the connection on the brake pads.If it's not to hard to do i would try and move around the wires at the plug at the front and rear pads while the ignition is on and have someone view the light to see if it goes out-also look to see if the wires are touching the wheel or any other part which maybe triggering the light on.It's not your brake fluid level is it?Have you checked that?

As for the service light look in the owners manual if you haven't already as some newer vw's you can do your self-(i can't remember on your vehicle)-otherwise take it to a vw place and they will reset it via there machine,it's only a two minute job.
