Wierd Battery Problem

I just replaced the alt, but while i am driving down the road, my battery light will come on, then go off, at random. then tonight i was coming home from the bar, and the light stayed on... and my car finally cut out and would not start... could this be that my battery is no good, or what? it is really starting to piss me off, and it only started to do it recently...

Re: Wierd Battery Problem

Where did you get the alternator?? Sounds like you got a bad one, I'd have your battery and alt checked.

i would try and get a higher warranty alternator man. usually 1 years are rebuilt and are junk. i know at my work our 1 years never lasted a month. they have been downgraded to a 90 day warranty now cuz there so shitty. IMO spend the few extra bucks and get a brand new one with a higher warranty if u can afford it

also, it is a good idea to get ur battery checked. it might be fine tho because the battery is used for starting the car only. after that it is run off the alternator. a good way to check if ur alts dead is start the car, then remove the negative cable on the battery if ur car dies, alts shot, if it stays running, its fine

Re: Wierd Battery Problem

if your battery light comes on while you are driving...your alternator is bad...or is not hooked up properly.

Re: Wierd Battery Problem

if youve got a system, even if its just an upgraded head unit you should invest in a higher amp alternator. the stock 60 just wont cut it specially if its a rebuilt. trust me i know. blew thru 4 of em in less than 3 months.

Pop your dizzy cap and check to see if you fried your coil. Same exact thing happened to me, even after putting an MSD ignition system with external coil (MSD blaster II). It's definitely the alt. I haven't had the time or money to replace the alt yet, so while I'm driving on the freeway, I drop into neutral and let the car idle every minute or so, for some reason, this won't over-charge the coil and allows me to keep driving without the engine light coming on... If the engine light comes on, I turn the car off, and re-start it. Pain in the ass for sure, but it works.
