Couple newbie questions

I've recently found an '89 non-turbo Supra for $2800, been looking for something with a bit more power than my '99 Cavalier, anyway.. after reading some of the posts around here I had a couple questions..

1. Are there any markings or sure-fire way to tell whether the car has the 7MGTE or 1JZGTTE engine just by looking? I know a little about cars in general, but not much about Supras.

2. Does anyone make a conversion kit to replace the pop-up headlights with stationary ones? I've found kits for Probes and Corvettes, but no Supras. That's the only thing I dislike about the cars appearance at all.

Thanks

Re: Couple newbie questions

only 93+ supras have the 1JZGTTE if I'm correct.
plus if both engines are stock one will have two turbos and the other will only have one

Re: Couple newbie questions

Not quite , since your in the US, no USDM MKIII came with the 1jz-gte (AGAIN! twin turbo DOES NOT mean "TT", it's not a damn Nissan everyone). All USDM MKIII's came with the 7m-ge or the 7m-gte. If someone swapped in a 1jz I'm sure they would want to tell you about it after spending $5K to do it. The MKIV came with either the 2jz-ge or 2jz-gte. Since you said your looking at an N/A then that Supra has a 7m-ge. "T" designates the engine is turbocharged, N/A is naturally aspirated and thus no "T". As for those crappy flush lights, no one makes them, and I couldn't be happier about the subject. Not only do flush lights suck at lighting the road compared to pop-ups but they always look terrible.

Re: Couple newbie questions

Quick and easy. Pop the hood. If it has a 3000 on top of the motor(valve covers) its a 7M. If it has a 2500 on top of the motor (agian on the valve covers) its a 1JZ.
