stock stuff?
Does anyone know what is on a stock 1997 Grand Am Se. I have a V6 2.4L engine but that's all I know. I would like to know the horsepower and how much is weighs. It's not a bad car and I just want to know what is its potential.

Re: stock stuff?
That 2.4 is an inline 4 cylinder, not a V6. It makes 150 hp. The curb weight of that car is roughly 3100 pounds I think. You do have significant potential with that car. Drop a Cold Air Intake or a short-ram Warm air intake setup in it, and that'll add 5 to 10 horse. I know of a couple companies that make lighter underdrive pulleys for the 2.4, add one of those, that's another 5 horse. Get a bigger throttle body - another 5 horse. Cat-back exhaust - another 10 hp. If you wanna spend money, headers would add another 15-ish. Good MSD 8.5 mm wires / good plugs like NGK iridiums - another 5 hp. Weight reduction dropping you 125 pounds while still looking stock (it can easily be done) good for another 5 hp. That's about 50 added hp total - a very conservative estimate. Keep in mind that in general the more mods you have, the larger benefits more mods will reap. so that'd bring you up to 200 hp in a (now 3000 pd) car - pretty good power to weight ratio, it'd be 'peppy' lol all for about 1200 to 1500 dollars. So yeh your car does have potential
