Well if you just plan on turboing you could get a b18b which has 140hp w/turbo youd probaley get lcose to 200hp and the b18b isn't that expensive.

If I was in your position, I would put in a JDM K20A-R. Engine mounts have been made for this swap already and it should give you more than enough power. It has 220HP stock, but unlike other engines, it responds extremely well to bolt-ons. I mean I have a H22A and installing an intake, and exhaust barely make a noticable difference. I have heard that on a K20A-R, it makes a big difference with just normal bolt-ons.

Sure the k20 do make good power with boltons. But who the hell wants to pay that much for a motor that is only good for bolt ons with no possibility of forced inducting. I'm all about na but the K20 is good with boltons only. Other than that, fuck the k20 long live the b-series line.

well i am probably gonna spend like 3g's on a complete swap, or i d like to spend about that much on a swap and I want to make it a show car but stilll with some power to make it a sleeper...so I was thinking maybe a more than a si but not quite yet a type s...but the other thing that i have to let be known is that my car is currently a AUTOMATIC tranny...so what ever is the cheapest but best value for the money basically |

Re: What The Best Engine For A 92 Hatch?
oh, and no matter what, auto->manual swap should be at the top of the list.

Auto to manual swaps suck. It's tough to do. You would have to install the pedals, add hydrolic clutch lines and resevour. Your best bet is to sell your car and get a manual one and do a B16A2 swap, or swap in a B16 from a Del Sol Vtec. Some of them were automatic,You could buy a b16 long block, and buy the automatic trans separetly for the motor, but it has to be the right one. Best bet, get a new car, then put your head on straight and screw the show car idea. With a Civic you can never have a competitive show car. They are way over done. Plus show cars are gay.

Re: What The Best Engine For A 92 Hatch?
auto to manual swap isnt suck a big deal, I had mine looking like it came factory with a manual tranny in under 15 hours, not sure exact but I know it was less than that. hard part is gathering parts, not really hard but hard to do cheap, I was lucky, found a wrecked 5 speed civic for 300 bucks.
id say the biggest PITA is the shift linkage though because sinfce it didnt come from the factory with a manual linkage setup, the recieving bolts arent welded to the car like on a 5 speed car. so its nut and bolt and it sucks unless you have someone there to hold the bolt on the other side but I didnt so I had to wedge the wrench against the shifter and crawl out and reposition when it fell off. and if your gonna swap, engine will be out already so the clutch hard line will be a peice of cake, the master cylinder isnt too tough, one bolt is a biatch to get to but other 3 are easy. you have to put in the gas/brake pedal assembly from a 5 speed as well so the brake pedal isnt huge and ion the way of the clutch. basically if you buy a 5 speed complete swap youre close to all you need, just pedals, master, hard line and hasports auto->manual mount, I rewelded my stock one but the mount would have loked SO MUCH cleaner.

You should use more common sense. First off, anyone can claim they have so much hp. Second, I can get a Geo Metro 3-cylinder motor to 600hp if it is fully built. If you build a race motor, out of anything, any hp number is possible. What I speak of is practicality. First off the b-series line is cheap, easy to work on, and easy to find parts for. Everyone has built a b-series motor, so modding is cheap and easy in any form na or turbo. The k-series line is very tempermental. The torque they produce is great, but they are very expensive, there are less parts, not as many poeple have built them, they are harder to work on, and the list of negatives goes on. I build NA Honda motors. I have friends with both k-series and b-series. The b-series in the real world are producing better numbers and faster times. Oh wait, what is used in racing, let's see, that's right, 99% b-series motors. You won't see any k-series motors in dragging na or turbo. The b-series still dominates the track. Someday I don't doubt the k-series will surpass the b-series since it alters both intake and exhaust timing, but as of now, the b-series is still better. Do your research before you bag on someone who does this for a living.
