Ford Focus WRC 'Kenyan Safari' Hasegawa

OK, I have decided to attempt my first online build. This is only the third model I am building after a fairly long layoff so bear with me.

The model I have chosen to build next is, as you can see below, the Hasegawa rendition of the Ford Focus WRC car. This one is from 1999 and is the car that won the Kenyan Safari rally that year. It was piloted by Scotsman Colin McRae and navigated by Welshman Nicky Grist. This was a special victory for Ford as it was their first Safari victory since 1978 with the Escort RS1800.

This one is being built box stock without too much extra detailing in store. I still need the practice so I will be concentrating on just achieving an overall clean build.

The box art on all the older Hasegawa rally kits is pictures of the real car in action, awesome!!

The main parts laid out (there are more!!) The Decals have the very nice correct flourescent coloring and look superb, I hope they are easy to work with! This body requires virtually no cleanup at all, it is superb. Bumper fits beautifully too, if the rest of the kit fits that well I will be laughing! Nice PE fret for seat belts and nice material for the belts and mudguards etc. Tires are super nice!!

The rest of the parts!!

I will try my hardest to keep regular updates if this is a subject you are interested in?

This outa be good! Although the pics aren't working for me at the moment. I wonder if it would be easier to paint the fluro red rather than use the decals?

Finally, please excuse my nitpicking, but the event in question is normaly known as the Safari Rally Kenya.

Some might even call it anal Phil....only kidding with you. Who are we to argue with one of the rally masters.

Certainly I will be following this eagerly as I have started my Hasegawa Rally of Great Britian Ford Focus. Phil I like your idea of spraying the red but Im not sure I would have the confidence in doing that. Would rather pull my hair out with the decals .

Your right, and it says so right on the box (that you couldn't see)! Let me know of the pictures still aren't working.

Gret subject, i will follow this one, I would put decals as those light/dark blue martini stripes are preaty see through and if you don't paint the red perfectly it will be visiable. You could only do the rear bumper because it will be a hell of the job to put that decal in that spot.
Just my thoughts.

Hmmm, looking at that rear bumper it does look a little scary. Anybody know the best paint match for these decals?

If you have some decal softener I think it would be less trouble than finding the right color and masking, panting etc.

Here's my suggestion

Carefully cut the fluo red part and keep the blue lines in a safe place Then try to apply it and if you succeed you can procede with the rest, if not then you can try paint.

Good luck!

A few suggestions:
- You could trim off ALL the flourescent orange decal and use an approximate paint. Most work but probably the best finish if you do it right.

- You could scan the kit decals and print some copies on decal paper, using them as 'patches' for any gaps you find. This would be easiest to do, as you're just adding a tiny section or decal material, but it might be hard to get a good match on the color from your printer.

Re: Ford Focus WRC 'Kenyan Safari' Hasegawa

Well now I know I should follow the advice of AF people. After finishing the paint work I ruined the first decal I tried to put on. I have to order a new set of decals from MediamixHobby and paint the red sections. Anybody know of a close match forthe carpena decals for this car?

AJ

IF I remember correctly, it's Tamiya Bright Red.
