Which wheel bearing to purchase?
Hello everyone, I have an awesome 1995 Honda Civic EX with the 1.6 VTEC and a very well taken care of automatic transmission.
I have recently ran into the sounds from a rear wheel bearing and will have to replace such soon. I have been checking different online vendors as well as the local auto parts stores and there are many options as to which rear bearing/hub assembly to purchase. Now I believe that my Civic has ABS since it is an EX model, I was wondering if this also holds true for the rear brakes. It has disc all the way around, therefore is every wheel ABS? Also, I have seen many different rear bearing/hub assemblies for this car. One for drum brakes, disc with rear ABS, disc without ABS; does anyone have any clue as to which one I should purchase? I was consider purchasing this pair of bearings from eBay, since it has the best price available, and for a pair. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PAIR-...ht_3581wt_1165 Does anyone have any clues as to what I should consider? I would simply visit the local salvage yard, but the past few times, Civic's were a very rare find, and if they were there; they were gutted. I also have no problem using a "used" bearing. I look at it this way, if the original bearing can reach 150,xxx miles without a problem....... Thanks!

Re: Which wheel bearing to purchase?
When it comes to bearings i would only by new oem parts. with that said, look at the back of the wheel disc assembly, look for electrical wires that lead to a wheel speed sensor. that should tell you if you have abs for the rear wheels or not, and check both sides. I know of 2 types of abs, 4 channel and 3 channel. 4 being all four wheels and 3 being the front two and one channel (speed sensor) for both rear wheels.
in any case i would just go to a honda dealer with your vin and get whatever bearing you need, at least then you know its NEW, QUALITY, and the RIGHT part.
