1979 vs early '70's shaker hoods?

I have a 1979 Trans-Am that did not have the shaker hood on it when I bought it...the guy before me tooka standard firebird hood and bondoed a shaker scoop to the top of it. Anyway, I bought a shaker hood and shaker scoup set-up and they don't line up properly. My question is this. Was there a difference between years on the 70's trans-ams shaker styles that would hinder proper fit if it was not the right year? Is there a difference between the Olds 403 shaker and the Pontiac 400 shaker set-up? Thanks.

Yes, and yes. The early version won't fit the later ones. '79-'81 are the same.

The 403 used a different setup than 400 (or smaller).
