RB26DETT powered 240Z (PICS)

This project (at least the body) was inspired by the car from Wangan Midnight. I've been working on it for over a year now, mainly because I have been so busy with school and work. I intended to post these pics up my progress pics a long time ago, but I just didn't get the chance. I took some pics of the interior, but I have no idea what happened to them, as well as a few of my earlier bodywork pics. I'll try to take some new interior pics, since I spent quite a lot of time on that part. Also, I've made a little progress since taking these pics, so I'll try to post them up tomorrow. Anyway, tell me what you think.

I made the front spoiler/bumper from a piece of clear plastic and a glob of bondo. I litterally just threw a bunch on bondo on it and started smoothing and sanding. This was before I knew about the putty.

I made the air ducts from little pieces of cardboard. It was a pain in the ass.

I was originally going to use the L24. I bought about 6 240Z kits, so I'll save it for another one.

I ended up putting about 8 coats of paint on it, mostly to fix little mistakes.

As you can see, a lot of the springs were trimmed. I had to do this in order to get the car to sit correctly.

This picture's a little bright, but you can see the racing harness.

There are the exhaust manifolds, which were made from heated styrene tubing. They are still a little rough. I'm currently working on the rest of the exhaust, which will be made from aluminum tubing and solder wire. I made wastegates as well, but my camera has a hard time taking pics of them.

Re: RB26DETT powered 240Z (PICS)

I remember reading about a gold RB26 powered Z a couple years ago in SCC. It had stock R34 GT-R rims. Really nice.

Your progress look awesome. I like the manifold build and flares.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. ozstrider, I got a lot of pics from the Mangas that I have. I got them from http://sasugabooks.com. They have the first 20+ volumes. The mangas are in Japanese (which I still can't read), but it's still fun to look at. If you're looking for pictures, use Google's image search and type 'Wangan Midnight'.

Looks promissing. Did the Watanabe-wheels came with the kit?

Re: RB26DETT powered 240Z (PICS)

No, I had to buy them. They are Fujimi 16", I believe. I had to buy two sets, since each set came with two wheels that were the size I needed, and the other two were big-ass drag racing tires. I started to use them, but they were too wide and made the car look awkward. Maybe I'll use them on a drag car.

This looks promising. Is it Fujimi kit or Revell. I have Fujimi kit and it came with watanabes or some sort. Those rims look familiar.

Very good job!

It's the Revell kit, with Fujimi 16" Watanabes. I'd like to work on it more today, if I can get my Christmas shopping finished. If so, I'll try to post up some more pics. I have the Fujimi Wangan Midnight kit now, which kinda sucks, because it looks like a better model, and very little bodywork is required. Maybe after this one is finished, I'll do it again on the Fujimi model.
