Question cam shaft sensor

hello I have a 98 olds aurora, and i have my ses light on and two codes come up one is the camshaft sensor and the other is has something to do with the camshaft position sensor, now I unplugged the battery removed the sensor and replaced it plugged the battery back in and the ses light came right back on, I thought maybe I had bought a bad sensor so I brought it back and got as new one still there was no change ses light still on does anyone have any idea what my problem could be

Re: cam shaft sensor

Unplugging the battery doesnt reset the SES light on these cars.

1. I would go somewhere and have them clear the codes . See if it comes back on.

2. I know you said you changed the Camshaft sensor. That is easy to do. But are you sure the second code was not the CRANKshaft position sensor ? If it happens to be it is located right next to where the oil filter is under the car. It is also cheap and easy to do yourself.

Re: cam shaft sensor

Yes, disconnecting the battery does reset the light.

I just did it on mine, light came on one morning while starting because it was so cold the car wouldn't fire smoothly for 10 sec, I'm sure the computer sensed an ignition fault. Light came on.

Disconnected the battery, turned on the key. Light was off when I reconnected.
