Screw it... here I come TT action!

Fugg-it! I'm swapping in a TT... this NA business is getting expensive every-time I do more research. So where's the best place to get a nice VG30DETT with low miles? I want a good and strong motor! My freind actually sourced a good JDM engine in Okinawa before he left for Cutar (by Iraq) but I heard that the JDM engines are a bit weaker (???) and come with smaller turbos. I'm not sure if buying a JDM engine would be benificial other than the low miles. What are the differences between JDM and USDM engines anyway while we are on this subject... where ca I source a good USDM engine? Wes? Thanks guys!

BTW what are you bitches getting me for my B-day? A VG30DETT would be nice!

your gonna need a little more than the motor their jorge!!! but yeah, USDM motor has a little bigger turbos than the JDM motor resulting in more peak HP but the JDM turbos spool faster resulting in faster HP. pick your poison really...

finding a USDM motor: wrecking yards or find someone that is parting out their car but usually those engines are no good and need to be rebuilt. i wish you the best of luck!!! your gonna need it sucka!!!

Yes-yes! I know, kiddo... don't forget this was my original idea before Project VG32DE! I'll need ECU, harness, trans, blah-blah-blah! Still undecided on AT and MT. But I'm swaying towards AT... I'm lazy, y'know? I also thought about junk-yards but that is precisely why I'm asking this question! I need to find a good, low mileage motor. How much do you think they go for anyhow? Like I mentioned: My buddy sourced a good JDM engine package for me (and can probably find many others!) but I'm not sure if this is the route I want... not even sure how much they want right now! Any idea on the exact HP put out by the JDM engine? WHERE CAN I FIND A GOOD USDM'er?

Shaddup....

Well, yes... I guess I failed Project VG32DE... maybe someone out there will pick up where I left off? When they do I shall be the first to bow my head in respect! I just figured I don't really wanna spend that much money in one car alone... I want to be able to buy another car and fix 'er up too.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated!

go HERE!!! and fill out the form and you will get like 10 emails from wrecking yards that have what you need and prices. i did that and most of them wanted anywhere from $1200-$2000 for the engine alone....so, yeah...i think i am going back to my original game plan and just getting a front clip instead of piecing everythign together. unless i find a blown motor or something for real cheap...

Re: Screw it... here I come TT action!

^ Like I said, buddy... my friend can probably source some good JDM engine packages for you when he gets back to Okinawa in about 6 months... if you are interested of course...

Re: Screw it... here I come TT action!

like k3 said, when my n/a engine blows, i will just buy the whole front clip instead of trying to piece one together. i would also go with the JDM engine with the quicker spooling becuase would like the power to be right there, especially since i will have a naturally aspiriated car for a while.

Just beware, JDM engines usually aren't in the best of condition. A complete rebuild is usually not needed but it will most likely require some work. USDM engines are usually more expensive and may or may not be in any better condition then their JDM counterparts.

The problem is really that most 300ZXs are either over or approaching 10 years old, making replacement engines in good condition a rare find.

Example: My own JDM replacement, it had a legit 20,000 miles on it, was out of an automatic TT that must have really been babied. Inside and out every moving part was clean as factory fresh, save for a bit of rust on the various gears in the front (which is where the 10 year thing comes in, the engine must have sat outside somewhere for a while). Even in such great condition, I'm replacing all of the stiff old PVC and IACC hoses, the IACC valve and a few other things. There is one or two other items I would have to replace/fix but I'm upgrading those so no worries .

Now, Broke being who he is, I would suggest you take the time to do any upgrades you plan on doing while the engine is out. For example, it would probably be a sound idea to replace the seals around the turbos. Now dropping $1500 for some new JWT 500s might be a bit of a stretch but getting a $400 set of ported exhaust manifolds is a pretty good upgrade for the cash. Anyway, just something to think about.

Re: Screw it... here I come TT action!

JDM clips are typically in rough condition, all of the ones I've seen move through my buddies shop have been in 'ok' condition, just need a 60k maintenence done.

But I've seen some engines like RB25DET in such shit shape, that a full rebuild is neccesary.

Its risky going JDM... I would say go USDM and find a wrecker yard that will chop the front of the car off for you... It wont be cheap, but it may be the smartest way. Because you get to look, touch, and feel the product before you buy it.

With JDM Import clips... Your taking a fun risk. You have no idea what your getting.

Just being honest about the JDM world...

So thats my views... And I like everyone elses. So I guess you've got a plan.

Hey George, when is your birthday?

I'll send you a little something... Speaking of that, Jared, did you get your package from me? If not, I'll just go ahead and resend it. I've got a few of these to go around.

yeah i would love to find a USDM front clip but that is a whole other problem in itself. finding these cars with the engine and everything still in them and not parted out is a chore. with these cars, many wreckers as soon as they get the car, they pull the engine and trans...so there goes your front clip. but on the other hand, if you could find some deals, you might be able to save yourself some change if you piece one together.
