97 Pathfinder P0305 & P0325 - Need Help
My check engine light came on about 2 weeks ago. It was running real poorly, like it was trying to get gas as I accelerated, then the lamp came on. I was able to get to the PCM and get the codes by reading the flashes, which were 0604 and 0304. I got Cylinder # 5 Misfire Detected and Knock Sensor or Circuit Fault. I cleared the codes out by using the screw.
Well, today the light came on again. I stopped by Advance Auto to have the codes read to see if it confirmed what I found. It pulled the same codes (P0305 & P0325) only twice for each one. The duplicate of each code said Pending. I came home and cleared the codes out again. I also disconnected the battery for about half and hour. The codes are now cleared. My question is, what would cause these 2 codes to be set off twice within 2 weeks? Bad gas maybe? It has new plugs. I did not replace the wires, cap or rotor, as I didn't have the money right now. The wires look to be in good shape. I pulled the cap and it had normal wear on it, as did the rotor. Before anyone asks, I use 87 or 89 octane (I am not sure, whichever is the lowest at the pump). Also, recently (several months), before the check engine light came on, the vehicle would run a little funny. Sitting still, it would seem to have a very, very slight miss sound to it, but not bad. |

You have a cylinder #5 mis-fire you need to take care of. Don't worry about the knock sensor code, at this time. The knock sensor code could be a result of the miss, however Nissan's do not turn a chk engine light for knock sensor codes.

What would cause the misfire?

Several things can cause a misfire. Bad plug, wire, cap, rotor, failing injector, problem with the cylinder, etc. I recommend changing the wires, cap and rotor, and see what you get. The #5 plug was not damaged when installing the new one?

Is there any easy way to clean the injectors myself without having to pay the outrageous prices at the dealer or a shop? I have a set of noid lights I can test the injectors. |
