door won't close-hinge broken?

Hi,

I need to know if anyone has ever had this problem. I went to close my door tonight, and it wouldn't. Inner pin/hinge is not sitting right, and there is a spring hanging down. door will not close at all, and unfortuantely for us, it's raining outside. How difficult is this to repair? How do I do this myself? Any help appreciated please. Thanks

Go to Autozone, CarQuest, Pep Boys, Advance Auto or some place in that vein. Get new hinge pins and bushings. The only problem you will have is getting that spring back in. If you search this forum, there are detailed instructions on changing the hinge pins. Good Luck.

Thanks. Is it difficult to do, and possible? How do I search the forum for the instructions. I'm new to this. Thank you again for the quick response.

On the page your viewing this, go to the top, it will say search this forum. Type in "hinge pins" and that should get you a lot of posts.

OK I tried it, and it worked, but after reading them (and they are helpful), I have a question. What is broken on my truck is the part on the outer door jam. That little hole with the sideways U that hooks into the truck itself. I believe they are talking about inside ,by the emergency brake area, on that door jam, where the door swings open, correct? This is different. The door closes mostly, but will not lock into position. It's hitting against that piece that has moved out of place. It will not adjust at all. And there is a spring that popped out in there as well. Any advice, and what is it called..

I believe I know your problem...Look at your other door and use it as reference...the part (i Believe) that you are in ? about it the arm the actual spring goes onto...it just popped and moved on the wrong side of the hinge pin...with a screwdriver get onto that arm and using the hinge area where the pin comes through as the folcrum pry slightly down to move the arm down and push it towards the actual door..it is held againt the inside area of your hinge by that spring that popped...I hope these directions are not too confusing..also as long as it doesn't "pop" again it should be ok until you get that spring back in...

thanks. The spring was talking about was in the latch part on the door itself, not by the hinges. Put a screwdriver in, pulled up, and the latch is now seated right. There was a spring that had popped out behind the latch. Ripped it out, because there was noway I could see to get it back in. It now works. Also replaced the door hings and pins. Have not yet got that spring back in, need a spring compressor, but everything is working now. Thanks for all the advice everyone...
