I can certainly help you with this request, and the request for photos you made in the other thread you started. In fact I'm happy to do so, I just haven't had the time yet.

Can you be a little more specific as to exactly which cars you'd want the help with. The Harrods GTR raced for two years ('95 & '96) and there were slight variations in it's livery over those two years, as well as different race numbers depending on what series/event it was competing in. If you specifically want the details on one of the LeMans liveries that narrows it down quite a bit, but there were still variations between the two years.

As for the Gulf cars, there were '95s, '96s and longtail GTRs in '97. Each year had a unique livery and the sponsors would have varied I'm sure. I assume since you asked about the Harrods GTR you might only be concerned with the short tailed variety, but there are still two very different looking cars to provide reference for so if you could narrow it down I can help you out for sure. The '95-spec cars were Blue/Silver with a small Orange stripe. The '96-spec cars were Blue/Orange with a small white stripe.

If you need some basic examples of each to help you decide I can share those as well.

many thanks for your help

many thanks pelaton for your help on this one

The ones I am interested in are the short tail variety, but if you could send me a side view of the longtail version aswell of both the gulf 1996 liveried cars and harrods liveried cars that competed at Le Mans then I would be extremely greatful to you!!

I am creating side view schematic renderings of both these cars but I may change my mind on one of the version and create a long tail version instead. Were these long tail versions more popular than the short tail versions and why did they create a long tail version?

do you know of any websites that can inform me of the successes of the F1 at le mans regarding placings, drivers, number of finishes and wins and so on?

Whew - that's a lotta questions...

Just so we are clear, there was no longtail version of the Harrods GTR and the longtail GTRs that wore a Gulf livery looked entirely different than the short tailed ones.

The longtail GTRs were designed mainly to offer better aerodynamics, thus allowing the F1 GTR to continue to be competitive against cars like the 911 GT1 and CLK-GTR which had sort of bent the rules during their development cycles. There were other benefits associated with the longtails, such as lower weight, more power from the engine through the entire revband (although max power essentially remained the same) and the longtails also incorporated a sequential transmission. Think of it more as an extensive evolution of the early GTRs. As succesful as the short tailed GTRs were in those first two years, Gordon Murray is quoted as saying something to the effect of "We've finally turned it into a racer" when he saw the first of the longtailed GTRs out on some early test laps.

As for pictures, do you only want side views of each car? I can probably dig those up or something close for each one. If you require other angles I'll see what else fits your needs.

As far as websites for race results, there's a few I can think of. I'm not one to 'bookmark' links, so I'll be drawing from memory here a bit. The first is www.QV500.com and their Model Guide on the McLaren F1. There's a great overview with very accurate details on each of the variants there, as well as having most of the race history you are looking for on all the GTRs. Also, a site like www.RacingSportscars.com might be able to help with your photo needs as well as offering limited race results.

You can find another listing of race results here too:

I have a PDF of the 95 Harrods that I can email you, I am working on the 96 version and finished a few other race versions. I've done the art for several of the 95 and 96 cars including the cesar. I want to use them to create my own decals to build versions out of the Profil24 kit. Hope this helps, Peloton helped with this one and the Bscher West Competition version.

By the way Peloton, If you have any race photos that are good and clear, that's what I'm always looking for.
