90,000 rule
I've been hearing rumors that rx-7 engines give out after 90,000 miles is that true? If it is why?

FD engines tend to become fragile after 65,000 miles because of carbon buildup from large injectors and the twin turbo system.
FC engines are a lot better. turbo engines average around 120k to 200k. There's a big spread depending on how well the car was taken car of. Non-turbo motors are a whole different story. I've seen some go up to 400,000+ miles on the original motor and seals. Its all about maintaining the car well. FD3S - twin turbo, 550cc + 850cc injectors FC3S turbo - single turbo, 550cc injectors FC3S N/A - non-turbo, 450cc injectors

Re: 90,000 rule
they are easy as crap to maintain.... if you can't keep it running then sell it to someone with more common sense than you because regular oil and filter changes are the basic needs along with the usual things after a certain amount of miles

Re: 90,000 rule
FC N/A = super reliable and not uncommon to see them get over 200k miles.
FC Turbo = very reliable when not modded. Once you start modding you shorten engine life. Stock? I have a friend that got 250K miles out of his. The only reason it blew is because he started modding it. FD = Magority of its life it was beat on. The cooling system was inadaquate. The twin turbo's + the pre-cats wreck havoc on the engine. The rear turbo overheats thusly overheating the rear rotor housing leading to premature engine failure. First mod to an FD? Downpipe wrapped in header wrap to get the heat away from the rear turbo. FD's in stock form, unfortunatly, turned out to be unreliable. Recomondations per Pettit Racing for ANY rotary car. http://www.pettitracing.com/rx7/index.htm Quote:
