525i power seats

Our 1995 525i got a good accidental knock in the rear bumper (REQUIRING REPLACEMENT) coincidentally, the driver seat power adjustments stopped working. There is no power getting to the motors. I don't see any obvious breaks in the wiring and I can not find a fuse reference in the front fuse block or any in line fuses. The guy who repaired the bumper said he doesn't get paid to trace the wiring and was skeptical about the relation between the accident and the seat.

Any one have any ideas? - Where is the fuse for the power seats anyway?

Re: 525i power seats

I have a 1991 525i and the fuse for my driver power seat is under the backseat on the driver side. there will be a big black box there u can;t miss it and you will see the fuses. i have not looked at mine in awhile but u might have to remove the top off of the box i don't remember. again my car is 4 years older so i do not know if yours will be in the same spot. My owners manuel said nothign of them either i came across them on accident while tracing my wires. hope this helps.

Thanks:

Exactly the same experience. Nothing in the manual. After reading the forum in great depth I discovered the back seat fuses. Actually didn't have to take to the top off the fuse box, the fuse was exposed and labeled. Pretty feeble for a company that prides itself on its engineering. Now all I have to do is figure out why the driver seat heater switch doesn't work and we'll be good for another 150,000 miles.

Re: 525i power seats

The light comes on when you press the switch, but goes off quickly without heating the seat. I thought it might be a bad sensor. It looks like a big project to get to the switch and other heater electronics. Is there some trick to pulling the seat other than unbolting the track and uplugging all the wiring?

Re: 525i power seats

you should be able to careful pop the switch up and out of the seat side cover............don't loose the connector off the bottom of the switch or you will need to pull the seat. Removing the seat is fairly easy but PAY ATTENTION to the seat belt height adjuster cable that attaches to the seat frame at the left rear corner. Reinstalling is only difficult due to the front hook design, just work slowly and be sure to have both hooks engaged in the floor lugs AND DON'T force them, it will take a little wiggling to get them 'home' before the rear of the seat will drop into position..........best to you and stay in touch.........jb.

Re: 525i power seats

just a note, the heating pads usually go 'open', I've never seen one short [which would cause high current draw].......the 'load' cicuit in the switches usually fails in my experience.
