Any tips for G20 and Autocross?

I'm going to autotocross this Sunday. Do any of the seasoned autocross people have any tips to prepare my G20t? Maybe some tire pressure reccomendations or something? I've only gone to autocross once with the G20 and it ended up raining that day so I didn't get a good feel for the handling like I wanted. I bought the car in January and it has a K&N intake, some aftermarket headers, and a cheap aftermarket muffler which I replaced with a generic quiet muffler. Stock, everything else. I'm not looking too get too serious with this car and autocross. I usually go to autocross with my RX7, but she's down at the moment.

I convinced some of my co-workers to go with me this weekend for auto-x. They have a Integra GSR, 1st gen CRX Si, and a Toyota Paseo; all stock. I'm hoping that me and the G can kick some co-worker butt. The only car I'm worried about is the GSR because he used to auto-x a couple years ago plus he's got more HP. You guys think the G20t is up to the challenge??

Well I'm not exactly well seasoned and my experience is with a P11 but I'll try.

I found 40psi in the front and about a 35 in the rear was pretty good. Those are hot pressures. You might have to play around a bit as the P11 rear is different than the P10. Sounds like you already know what you're doing on the auto-x course so you shouldn't have a problem.

Definitely! Although that Si is going to be pretty tossable. Should be a nice fight though.

Thanks! I'll try that and see how it works out and do some fine tuning.

For auto-x, I'm very confident with my driving techniqe in my RX7. The RX7 was my first car so I learned driving and controlling on a car that's RWD. I'm no so confident with the the G20 because I don't have any experience with the differences in a FWD car. The main thing I noticed last time at auto-x was understeer and that I can't swing the tail out by pushing the gas if I need to. I'm looking forward to the learing experience though...

it also really depends on how good these other drivers are and how big or small the track is. i think they might have the advantage.. but ya never know!

Well it is a totally different technique with a FWD car. You'll have to practice your trail braking more. I managed to get some good rotation doing that. I only managed to do it a couple times, it's pretty tough to get it just right.

Well I run 42psi front and 35psi rear but like Jason said the p10 is a little different, I ran these preasures on the stock potenza's but they sucked pretty bad for the track, and about making it rotate I just brake late stay on it untill it starts to rotate then back to the gas to try and power out of the turn. I beat the little Acura's and civics all the time unless they are realy good drivers so I don't think you should have any problems with your co-workers exept maybe the guy who has done it before.

im obviously a newbie in auto-xing, but wouldnt having more tire pressure in the rear be better? kind of like going stagger mode?

Not really, the main reason for the higher tire pressure is to keep the tires from rolling over through the turns, as sidewalls don't really grip too well At least that was my understanding of it. And for some reason, a couple higher psi in the front handles very well. When i raced on the track, i ran mine pretty high on my Nitto 555s (not the drag radials, the street ones) somewhere around 42-38ish? It's been over a year, so i don't remember the exact numbers, but i do know i had them up in the 40's, same with the stock ones if i race, front up in the low 40s, rear in the high 30s. But i'm still new to it, so i'm sure you'll find a much better combo for your car, but that may be somewhere to start?

I'm going to a track fun day in a couple of months on a fast circuit. Here's the track : http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Tracks/pukekohe.htm

Last time I started with 33psi front and 30psi rear cold which I changed to 36 psi front and 33psi rear which was better. We'll also be doing some slalom runs. Any suggestions for cold tire pressure settings? Car is a T4 P10 all stock.
