Hi guys, i moved the car from the street to my driveway at night, and the car wont start in the morning. I checked the fuel pump, coils, spark, and the injectors, they all checked out ok. I even cleaned all the plugs, since they were drenched with gas. And i have no idea what to check next. i am a newbe to BMWs so any suggestions would be appricated thx

Hi, had same problem with my '95 328... Just moved the car on the driveway and wouldn't start a couple of hours later. It wouldn't even fire...
BMW mechanic came out and started it first time by flooring the accelerator and cranking the engine over until it finally coughed into life..(about 20 seconds). Apparently this is quite common on larger engined fuel injected cars (not just beemers) if the car is started from cold, and the engine only allowed to run for a few seconds typically while moving the car for a few yards. When starting, a big squirt of fuel is injected which does not get fully burnt as the engine does not warm up.. The next time you try to start from cold yet again another big squirt of fuel floods the engine. According to the Beemer bloke, if the engine will not start by flooring the gas pedal and cranking the engine for a while, then plugs need removing to allow excess fuel to evaporate. Dont crank the engine over for too long though, else you will mess up the starter motor. I have never experienced the same problem, but I am careful to let the engine run for a bit if I just move the car a bit from cold. Hope this helps.. |
