Funny smell coming from the car...:{

Hey guys, I think there might be a problem with my car. When ever I rev my engine up high to 5000 rpms or like that with the clutch in and the car standing in one place, then after couple of seconds there is this funny smell. I dont know if this is bad or not. It is not from the tires since the car stays in one place and doesnt move. SO i just rev the engine hard and then it starts to smell. I dont usually beat my car that bad and dont burn out a lot. Does anyone know where the smell is coming from and if this is bad and why it is happening? thanks a lot.

Does it happen to smell like rotten eggs? If so, your catalytic converter is going bad.

sort of, but not really. Im not absolutely sure of how rotten eggs smell, (im a dumass) but it sort of smells like burning rubber or something like that, (but i do not peel out, so it cant be the tires). If it is the catalic converter, is that serious, and would i have to replace it ASAP, and is it a serious thing to do? How do I know if it is the catalic converter?. thanks dude

Its probably the smell of burnt oil, preludes are known to burn oil in the VTEC range.

FIRST
Just keep putting more oil in, im not shure if youcan stop it

If you want to switch to synthetic you want to use semi synthetic oil then switch over to full synthetic on your next change. I have been told putting regular and full synthetic oil is practically like putting vegetable oil in water.

Ok ok. For starters when you're doing this do you have the car in gear with the clutch fully in?

H22as dont engage vtec if the cars in neutral maybe you're burning you're clutch. Ask someone to look at you're exhaust smoke when you do this then post back. You can tell by the exhaust smoke if you're burning oil.

Revving up the engine then feathering out the clutch is the best way to launch a front wheel drive car. It's also a good way to burn out your clutch. Every time I launch hard with my Prelude I smell burnt clutch. My clutch is stock and it isn't built to launch like this - when it's time to replace it I'm gonna upgrade to stage 1 or 2.
