98 SUB - 4x4 switch, DRLs, Oil Cooler Lines
Greetings all!!
First post -- New (to me) SUB, 98 4x4, 1500, 144K miles. A few questions.... Fuel pump is pretty noisy, but supposedly replaced 60K or so ago. Do they last not very long? Is a lot of noise common? 4x4 switch - lights 2wd/4wd/neutral dance around. I heard a new switch is a common replacement. True? I hate all this electric crap - has anyone retrofitted a nice mechanical old-fashioned lever? Oil cooler lines leak - is this a common replacement? Any common breakdown parts? TPS, etc., that would be worth carrying in the truck? I'm coming from an old F250 (79') so I like to carry parts that I could replace if on the road, but I'm new to all this high tech electrical stuff. I'd also like to disable the DRLs. I read about hitting the dome override swithc 3/4/5 times, but that doesn't seem to work, or I'm not doing it right. What is the truth, or do I need to pull the relay or fuse? Thanks for any input. Re: 98 SUB - 4x4 switch, DRLs, Oil Cooler Lines
I may be able to help with a few of your questions.DRL-I believe that if you pull the DRL fuse, that will disable the lamps.OIL COOLER LINES-I find that it is a very common problem. What I have noticed is that the hose hardens up over time thus the crimp is no longer tight enough to seal the rubber hose to the metal portion of the hose.I have carefully used a cut off wheel and removed the crimped collar on the hose and replaced it with a hose clamp. Some times you may have to replace the rubber section of hose if it has become too hard.FUEL PUMPS-They can be noisy, but if low on fuel, the sound may echo in the empty tank.I always change my filter every six months and don't let the fuel level drop below 1/4 of a tank.Pump is kept cool by the fuel and if the filter gets clogged, the pump must work harder to maintain the 60-66 psi to run the engine.4X4 switch-I haven't had alot of experience with the push button transfer case, but I was reading my owners manual and if a position is selected and is unable to shift the transfer case, the transfer case computer will got back to the original setting. There is a fuse for the tranfer case I believe,so you could check that.I hope I've been able to help and welcome to AF.

Re: Re: 98 SUB - 4x4 switch, DRLs, Oil Cooler Lines
Thanks for the reply Chuck.
The tank is I think below 1/4, so I will fill it up and see if the pump quiets down any. I ordered new oil lines. I didn't feel like risking a fix wtih clamps for the 75 or so PSI of a cold motor. Thanks for the input - much appreciated. Pete |
