Painting my FMIC

Ok, Im hooking up my front mount but the only thing is it isnt the prettiest looking intercooler. Theres no rust but its just not shiny anymore and there are small chips in the silver finish. Could I possibly spray paint it like a silver color, or would the paint decrease its cooling ablility. Any insight would be great... Thanks guys...

i dont really know about fmic s all that much but I would suggest not painting it. I think it would be like painting a radiator. it just wont dissapate heat the same way. if you are having trouble with the look then use a mesh grill insert to cover it up. the air will flow the same and you can keep the fact that you have it hidden from future adversaries (aka that riced out hon-duh that thinks its in the dsm leauge)

Re: Painting my FMIC

Spraying the IC will not hurt it. A lot of people spray theirs black to make it "sleeper" or whatever. If you want to restore the metal finish though, I think there might be a better way to do it than spray paint it. You could polish it and there is a VFAQ on straightening out the fins and making it look 1000 times better. I think the mesh grill is a good idea too though. It looks more like stock and subtle but you dont get to see the nice ass IC like in my sig.

When I say mesh grill I mean black mesh not silver.

Re: Painting my FMIC

I would surely not recommend spray painting your intercooler. If anything, get it anodized (as scottsee said). It's the best thing to do when it comes to painting intercoolers.

Re: Painting my FMIC

wont the paint act as a thin layer of insulation not letting the head radiate?
