Traction Control....? Should it Be On or Off..?
Hey guys, today, i was getting out of a lot with like 2 inchs compacted snow, and i had to disable my traction control cause as a wheel would spin...the brake applied to that wheel-making not such a good sound. Generally, would you recomend leaving it off for winter driving (if your wheels are gonna spin)...or leave it on..? My 95 tbird has a light rear end (rwd) and is so bad in the snow, i didn't know it was gonna be this bad. When i got the car 7 months ago i figured it's heavy enough for the snow-but all the weight is in the front pretty much. Another thing that i'm concerned about, is handling when you lose control on a snowy ground. I leave the traction control off because lets say your making a left onto a street-and your drivers rear wheel spins-it gets braked from the TCS and the car lunges-or kinda jerks because the right wheel has go-but the left doesn't. PS, i'd rather have the traction loss-because i'm used to regaining control when it loses control...unlike the un-natural handling the tcs causes.

Re: Traction Control....? Should it Be On or Off..?
you know traction control is supposed to stop wheel spin but it does the same thing on my sunfire. I would just keep it off if it just lets the wheels spin. we got like 10 inchs of snow in the past couple days so I know how it feels go through slippery snow. I would get cinder blocks or just something heavy and put it in the trunk to get some more weight in the back, it helps with the traction since the rear end is so light. and don't accelerate fast off of a stop it doesn't help it kills what little traction there was.

Re: Traction Control....? Should it Be On or Off..?
I would do whatever you feel more comfortable with. For example, I use the traction control on my dad's CTS but would turn it off on my mom's old van.

Re: Traction Control....? Should it Be On or Off..?
Are you still running summer radials?
That would be your FIRST problem. I would say, if you know your car well enough, you know what to do in the event of a loss of traction, and you don't feel SAFE with the TC on, turn it off...

Re: Traction Control....? Should it Be On or Off..?
On my Grand Am, I always turn it off. It cuts timing and stuff when it detects slippage, and it does a crappy job on mine. I like to be in control of my wheel speed and not have that thing cutting timing and shit. I always turn mine off first thing when I get into my car.
