Racing Seats

I was wondering if anyone here has put racing seats in a 96 grand am se. How do they look? Is there enough room? How is the installition on them? I was looking at some but I would like additional information from someone who has put them in. Also what is a good brand? Sparco?

Thanks

Re: Racing Seats

I'm not putting seats in until next spring but there should be no issue with fit. A racing seat is generally smaller than stock seats (a real racing seat). Cheap so called "racing" seats are just overglorrified stock seats. If your looking at spending some bucks MOMO Italy has some pretty snazy seats, but anything under $500 a seat and I wouldn't worry about it too much. Are you planning on using the the factory harness? This will also affect what style of seat you buy.

Re: Re: Racing Seats

Hi I don't want to spend a lot. I was just looking on some up on ebay for about 200 for a pair. The brand doesn't matter to me as much as the looks. I don't really know how they would hook up but do they come with adjusters and sliders or could I use my factory sliders? Is that what you mean by harness?

Thanks for the help

Re: Racing Seats

Does your car have power seats? That's the harness he's talking about. If you're looking at $200.00/pr seats, they are probably manual seats and you won't need to plug in any power to them.

Aftermarket seats can be bought for specific vehicles or can be modified to fit.

Just make sure you understand what you are getting (especially from ebay). Talk to the seller and get what you want.

I've modified a couple of power seats from different vehicles to fit into a CJ7 I had and into my 96 GMC Sierra. Not difficult at all.

OOOPS, misread dew_kid's response. I think he was talking about the seat belt harness. Now I'll keep my mouth shut and let him reply to you

Re: Re: Racing Seats

I don't have power seats but what I was asking what was the harness. I want to get some seats that will fit. Do the seats still use my factory seats belts. The seats I'm looking at are $100 + $150 for shipping. So about $250 for a pair. They are manua and come with sliders and adjusters. Do they need anything to hook up form my factory seats then if they are manual or do they just bolt in? Thanks\

Re: Racing Seats

Yeah, I meant the seat belt harness. lol. I would suggest that if you just want an upgrade in the seating department, then use the factory seat belts. If you are looking at getting a five point harness then there is a lot more work involved and you have to have a racing seat the can accept them. As far as the seats you are thinking of getting they will most likely be able to bolt on to the factory sliders once you take them off of your old seats. You may need to drill some holes to match up with the bolt pattern, but other than that it should be pretty simple.

Re: Re: Racing Seats

The ones I saw on ebay say that Universal double sliders are included with seats. So does that mean I wouldn't need to use my factory sliders I could just remove the whole seat and put the racing seats in there place? Thanks once again for the help.

Re: Racing Seats

They may fit, but if worse comes to worse just use the factory sliders. It's not a big deal.
