I have a '65 mustang w/a auto tranny that when it shifts into 2nd gear it makes the whole car shutters. It is wierd, check this out......when the car is still cold the tranny and car runs outstanding, shifts fine through all 3 gears. Once it warms up, if you take off from a stop, then you get this shutter/cut out from first to 2nd gear. Car shifts fine from 2nd into 3rd. Something else that is wierd......if you get on the gas a little harder no matter what temp the car is, it shifts fine through all gears. Shutter only happens with normal to lower take off from a stop.
A friend tells me it sounds like the bands are stretched and also says they can be tightened........is this true? He says to take it in and it should be less than 100 bucks. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. |

Re: c4 transmission question.....please help
Your friend has lost his dod gamn mind.
I'd bet your converter is on its way out. Yes there is a band in your C-4, but they dont loosen up, and you dont tighten them. If he is talking about shimming a band in some way he is wasteing his time. Yes I would say a band could stretch but by the time all that happened it would be time for a rebuild anyway. $100 for tranny work? Uhh...lets think about this.. Not happening! A tranny flush is around $100 on alot of vehicles. But "tightening the band" (which is bullsh!t) would involve pulling the tranny, pulling the pump, gutting the tranny, basically rebuilding the tranny useing the same parts. Tell your "friend" its best to know what the hell your talking about before you make an ass out of yourself.
