is switching to elec fans the way to go?
is switching my v-belt fan to elec fans really a good choice. I mean, i know it saves on power, but my friend says that the 240 came with a v- belt fan so i should keep it that wy, other wise elec fans are not efficient in cooling the radiator. He also said that it complicates things. Whats ur opinions?

its great, you can also run the fans when the engine is off, like at a track or such to cool it down...
they work good, you just have to get a proper shroud for it.. also clutch style fans sound like SHIT... it is a good mod to do I would wire it up to a switch in the cabin so you can turn it off and on yourself, as well as have a light for it that lights up when the fans are getting power.... just so u don't start it up one day and drive to work with the fans off lol |

I've actually heard of people just using the stock electric fan and having good results. I am debating on whether or not to just use it without the clutch fan.

it really matters where you live... if you live in a cooler rural area cooling is not a problem...
if your like me and live in hot ass South Florida with a shitload of traffic you can never have too good of a cooling system |

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
SR is right if you face heavy traffic it can be a bitch. Next time on a hot day in traffic just watch the needle rise, let alone if you try using the AC. I would go for it and the switch idea sounds good but makes another thing that can go wrong by just forgetting to switch it on or off.

im going to switch myself, because the clutch fan does sound like crap!.. so what i did is went to a junk yard and pulled 2 fans out for $50, one out of a sentra i think and another similar one out of another nissan, forgot what it was. I will connect one as the AC fan and the other one as the radiator fan.
Is there a way to make the radiator fan turn on and off by itself when the engine gets hotter? or will that require more work? the wiring would be a paint, but its worth it once its done. |

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
all righty then thanks a lot for the info, im gonna get paid today (hopefully) so by tomorrow i'll probably go to the junkyard and get them. Would any nissan fans do , or should i take the dimensions of my radiator or go for a specific model to take em off from? I heard nissan sentras work best. After i get the fans i'll need some help on installing em if i cant get my cousins to help me out. So i'll keep postin'. Thanks again.

I was at the junk yard over here pulling fans left and right and meassuring them and trying to figure out the best way to go without coming back, so for me the dual shroud was out of the picture, so i started messing with single fans and trying to make that into a dual set up with 2 fans. I got one of a SR20DE sentra. there is a radiator fan and a AC fan, the AC fan has 4 blades and radiator one has 5 blades. There are 2 different types as well, some have little motors and some have big ones, i wanted to get the big motors, so what i did i found 2 5 blade fans from nissans with 5 blades, this way even tho they are both radiator fans i can put them next to each other and one will be set up as AC fan and another as Radiator fan. This is all trial and error, but im still going to try and figure out on how ill be setting this up, i will have to take off my stock clutch fan and shroud and then work from that. I will be making a diagram soon and the meassurements of the fans and the radiator and mounts and brackets ill be making, this might be helpful for others to do the same set up. In about a week or so i should be able to have something going if it doesnt rain here or anything. as for the thermostat im gonna have to look for that at summit as well and see what i can do with that. |

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
altima fans fit the rad. perfect the shrouding it self needs a lil triming to fit between the frame rails but they work really well. i just droped my mech. fan last week made the engine a lil more revv happy. two weeks ago went to the 1/8th mile track ran 10.5s all night long went last night ran 10.3s al night and one 10.2 and it was WARMER this week than two weeks ago so there you go. and ive had NO over heating issues and i live in alabama so...

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
So GT500 have you completed the switching of fans yet, i went to the junkyard with my friend but we didnt have time to take em off a sentra, and there werre no altimas, but there were some old maximas with some elec fans and another 240 with the fan in front of the grill, we were there taking out some parts for his car.

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
Oh and by the way, at what the governor speed limit for civics, there were two racing today and i dcided to join em (border of mex to sd) i caught up to them and beat em for a while, after that there was some traffic so we slowed down and then went at it again, there were pretty fast for civics, when they would pass me i would catch up but then the governor would kick in, so i cant say that i beat em or not

Re: is switching to elec fans the way to go?
you will notice more power when switching to efans.
and you'll cool better if you have a good set of dual fans. i recommend getting a set of duals out of a junkyards of a maxima or altima, or similiar. and don't bother with a fan temperature controller. just wire them to the ignition. temps are perfect on mine and i've been doing this for 4-5 months in all kinds of weather. do it.
