Large tires and towing

I was going to email Philospher privately on this issue, but decided that there might be some people who might benefit from this information.

I tow a 2200lb pop-up camper. Last weekend synchro mentioned to me that Philospher also tows a camper.

Is towing bearable with 32" tires, or should I stick with 31" tires if I plan on towing? I plan on using the camper at least 5 times per year, as we still tent camp quite a bit. Am I going to have serious issues on mountain passes with 31's?

Yep, I tow a 2K lb. camper and haven't had any problems ... other than having to be in third gear @ 4K RPM going 50 MPH when going up steep upgrades - which we all had to do when we went out to GOX last year: we all had so much gear that we were doing 50 MPH in 3rd gear @ 4K RPM going through some of the passes in the Rockies ... I'm pretty much used to it now.

Nope, not at all ... after I get rolling, I can set the cruise control and it stays on just fine, it's only the hills and mountains that make me downshift 2 gears.
