Inacurate fuel guage
I was hopeing that someone could help, I have a 2000 Rodeo 3.2L, The fuel guage is not reading right, at about a 1/2 tank the fuel light starts to blink and when the gauge reads empty I refuel but only to add about 10 gallons or so, meaning the tank was half full not empty, The check engine light comes on as well at about a quater tank and resets it self when I refuel... any thoughts?......

Re: Inacurate fuel guage
common problem. if you are still under your powertrain warranty take it in to your local (nearest) dealer they will replace the fuel pump.
The fuel pump on 2000- Rodeos are considered to be a part of the powertrain and is covered by warranty |

Re: Re: Inacurate fuel guage
Unfortunately I am out of the warranty, I have found through this forum that it is related to the fuel sending unit? Is it easy to replace?

Tired of figuring out when I will be out!
Thanks for the advice on changing out the fuel sending unit. The pics and all are very helpful. I will wait until it get to about 350 miles and there won't be much gas in the tank. Thanks again!

I was lucky to go 275 around town and when I pulled the tank off I only had about a gallon left..

Yeah, 350 miles! What is everyone else getting? Combined highway/city, I went 323 miles this weekend and filled up with 15.3 gallons, that averaged 21.1 miles per gallon. Of course, the old fuel gauge is showing empty since about 50 miles. I ain't gonna test it but 21 mpg X 21 gallon tank, you could conceivably go 441 miles. I usually get 17-18 in town, as long as I keep my son out of it, and that will happen, now that he bought an Avalanche this weekend. It is agravating since you have to fill up each time whether you want to or not, so you can tell how far you have left. The first time it happened, I thought MAN,what happened to my mileage? But when I filled it up, and it took about 10 gallons with 180 miles on the odo, I crawled up under the truck to see if maybe my tank had been bent in and it wasn't holding as much gas, but that seemed fine. I am glad I found this site, so now I know what to do to fix it, and with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I'll probably just be watching the gauge by the mileage, too busy this time of year!
