1990 trofeo "hard start"

My 1990 trofeo has a hard start problem, seems to crank a long time and then stumbles into a run, also smells heavy of gas. seems to be when hot or cold but worse when warm. I did check the fuel pressure it seem good and maintains pressure when shut off. anybody have any ideas please?

Re: 1990 trofeo "hard start"

I have the exact same problem. The occurence of this problem with my car is really random. When I press the gas (normally), it's as if the engine hesitates for about 1 or 2 seconds, and then stumbles into a run.

I also have another problem with my 1990 Trofeo:
When i start the engine and leave it idle for about 2 or 3 minutes, the engine struggles and the odometer goes up and down. Its as if the engine is reving rapidly and shortly. And if I put it in drive, shortly after pressing on the gas, the car stalls... The transmission is automatic...why does it stall?
