This is an article from a Tampa Newspaper, i can agree with most what's said in it:


IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.


We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women,
on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part
of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move
to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag,
our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

atleast ebonics is a branch off of english and has ties to it. Most people understand ebonics. I dont understand a word in another language. Most people call me ignorant cause im not willing to learn, but shit they come here expect me to pay for their food stamps and welfare and that kinda bullshit and they want me to speak spanish or whatever language they speak to them! i dont think so. Fuck them if they dont like it, go back to where ever the fuck you came.

I think the real problem is access to the mainstream and wealth. If you don't learn the language you will have limited access to both not to mention the danger of not being able to communicate with emergency personnel.

I'll just call you ignorant for your attitude towards others and the limited vocabulary you possess. No, we shouldn't be paying for a non-resident's healthcare or welfare but I don't think that's really the point of the article.

he's sorely mistaken on one point. "under god" was not around until we decided to seperate ourselves from the godless commies druing the cold war. and this country was founded by people seeking asylum from religious persecution AND from being forced into religion.

i would also like to suggest to the author, that is he or she is so convicted intheir beliefs, that they prove so by giving up whatever plot of land thier house is on to whatever native american tribe once owned it, begin speaking that tribes language and practicing their religion, otherwise, shut your pie hole, stop whining, and get on with life.

True although people really need to get over the whole 'under god" thing. Let people believe what they want and leave them alone. Thats not even a church and state issue considering that all that the constitution says is that the state can not dictate religion.

Funny, I was under the impression that the US was founded because of taxation without representation, and being forced to house British soldiers amongst other wrong doings. To be quite honest, most of the founding fathers were not as strongly religious as was believed. While people came to the americas in the 15th and 16th centuries to avoid religious persecution, by the time the US was founded they were coming over almost solely for economic opportunities.

Dang that things ooooold. Actually I believe it may have been posted at least a year ago. I do agree with it, b/c no one gave shit to the immigrants who came here from the beginning or during the early 1900's. They adapted to the society the best they could and didnt ask for anything.

I believe nearly all immigrants want to learn English and want to celebrate their heritage as well as the ones they'll get here. My wife and her family are Chinese but came from Korea (grandparents fled China during the revolution). So they observe holidays and traditions from China, Korea and the US. They learned the language and customs of our country. I've met many in the Chinese community in Lansing and they are about all the same. They know the language or are learning it. They support our troops. They question the government. They just want to be treated like everyone else.

The problem is with the few who refuse to make the effort. Though their number is small, their impact is grand. A few people whine and suddenly we have to have multilingual paperwork and support personnel. Its fine for a private company to offer that accommodation. Its their money and business plan. Its not a good precedent for the federal government. Municipalities can make the effort but there are just to many millions that speak dozens of different languages to make the federal systems available in all the varied tongues.

Haha, the first 'immigrants' that came to america raped and pillaged the natives here, and didn't adapt to anything. They forced their culture onto them, and if they didn't like it, fuck em. At least the immigrants now are trying to adapt.
