What would you do in a sale situation like this?!?!

So here's the short story. Keep in mind we live in Germany so things work a little different that's why the loan was slow as you will read below. anways...

I meet with the seller of a 1994 740IL on Saturday to test drive the car. I test drive the car, look it over and all that good stuff and like it...

So he mentions he will go $9500 for it. That's what I was going to offer any ways so again, I am happy. We shake hands and say see you on monday.

So I wake up early on Monday morning. We are suppose to meet at 10am at the car and start all the transfere stuff going. I get insurance on the car, get the loan approved and the check sent to me in the mail. Mean time we agreed on a $2000.00 deposit to hold the car until the loan check got to me. Well monday at 10am rolls around he calls and says he can't make it he has an emergency meeting. Understandable cause of the military and all that...

Well I finally get in contact with him tonight after trying all week. He says that he got another on the car for $10500.00 and that he didn't do research on the price of the car and that he would rather sell it for that.

Of course I get mad and explain my frustrations... After everything was said and done I told him I wouldn't go higher than $9750.00.

He said okay and we are suppose to meet again when the loan check arrives.

So what would you do in this situtation? I kinda want to just leave him hanging for a week and never call him again, just cause I am so pissed.

That's not the logical thing to do cause it's hard to find a US Spec Vehicle here in Germany and that's what we really need...

This may not help you now, but in the future, I would suggest getting everything in writing. You can do a Buy/Sell Agreement, which states who the seller is, who the buyer is, what the agreed price is and when the transaction will take place. It should be signed by both parties and dated. That way, you have a CONTRACT. If you are in the States or on a US military base, you should also have it Notarized. Rule #1 - CYA!

but would that help, seeings there was no money involved and if it came to it the courts wouldn't have time to stop him from selling the car if push came to shove...

Did you ever go through E38.org for the common faults? Someone look over the car for you?
Do you really want it that bad? There are tons to choose from in 1 year when you get back..

Re: What would you do in a sale situation like this?!?!

Yeah, I checked out the common problems and such. Im not to worried. Problem is that we need a car cause our second car is about to die... It doesn't make much sense for us to buy a Euro spec car cause we will return to the US next year and would just be wasting our money on a non-US vehicle... It's very hard to find an older US Spec BMW over here since most people drive the Euro spec for obvious reason... It just sucks this lil 86 BMW 325i didn't last us 3 years instead of just 2...

What you do is get your money back and say screw this guy!Evidently he is trying to jack you.You buy a beater for a year and when you get back to the states, Bush will have this economy more screwed up than he already does and people will lose their jobs to overseas countries and you will find a lot of BM's being practically given away.
