damn sentra

Alright. Can anyone help. I just bought a 87 sentra 5 speed carburated p.o.s.. I only use it to get back and forth to work. I tried to pass emissions the other day and i failed. My carbon levels were triple the limit which means I'm running way too rich. Now the car wont even run. I can sometimes get it started but whenever it comes down from revving back to idle it starts to sputter and sounds like put put put like its missing. I think it might be the carburetor but have no clue. Any clues. Fuel pump and filter have been replaced recently. Also if in gear and attempting to move I press the gas and sometimes it starts to move and then cuts out and then in and then out. Any one please help me get this P.O.S. back on the street.\

Re: damn sentra

sounds like you need a tune up. question is how much money are you willing to put into the car, and are you going to do the work yourself? I would get some carb medic and spray the hell out of your carb and jets. Replace the spark plugs, the spark plug boots, air filter. Maybe you have a sticky choke, spray that witht he cleaner and forcefully move it about. Re-adjust your timing, and your valve clearances too, and idle speed. Make sure all your vacume hoses are attatched too. Check your cylinder compression, make sure your all level their as well. I would change your PCV valve and also.

Thanks for the advice. Spark plugs were already done and filters. I guess I need to buy a little Chilton book and fid where the idle screw is. Thanks again
