brakes: i'm no technician, thats for sure

i leave my first job at 3:00pm, and 3 blocks down the road, my brakes are grinding like never before.
i pulled over and i'm metal to metal in the rear.
i take it home and buy some brake pads and tried to put them on myself.
i've changed the brakes on my cousins car and a friend of mine.

well it was a diff story with this one, i had my mom pump the brakes and the damn piston comes flying out and brake fluid goes everywere. i end up ripping the nipple trying to put it back in and not only is there a whole wod of air in the brake lines but i absolutley destroyed my caliper.

well basicaly i'm paying $371 for a rear brake job, money that i don't have. but hey, ya gotta be able to stop right. ahwell , another day another dollar................ or 371 of them

Ouch are they realy that hard to change? I was thinking of doing it myself for a while but I would want somone who knows how there with me, lucky for me there are a bunch of 3SI members in my town who say they'll help if I need it for anything.

dude...your car was obviously getting no action. Or you weren't looking after it...so when you actually started playing with it it got sooooo happy and excited it just let go of its fluid.... I think that was the only problem

Re: brakes: i'm no technician, thats for sure

On your brakes you may have needed to replace the rotor as well as the pads. And if you get them at Advance Auto or Auto Zone.. and do it your self, you will only be paying 150.00 for rotors and pads left/right side. I had to do it already. i went ahead and replaced my brake hoses as well. its a good idea to check them out if your car has more that 100k miles.

If you are considering doing your brakes, follow the instructions in the tutorial, and you'll be fine. I had never done brakes before and did just fine on mine.

Re: brakes: i'm no technician, thats for sure

Dude I just changed my brake pads and rotors, and i did same stupid thing and took me about a week to fix it. all you have to do if your piston is all the way out u justt have to clean everything inside and out and put the piston back and put the ring around it. Then put everything togther and starting bleeding every tire. You have to bleed from the tire farthest from where the piston fell out and go all around do the one with piston out last. Just make sure that when ever u r bleeding that the brake fluid in the revisor dosent go out and probably have to fill out every time u do a tire.
Well if you have any questions ask me because i know how big of pain in the ass it is.
They told me if i just need to replace it then i have to pay $350 just for the caliper. The mistake you made was that you took the caliper and pads out on one side and push the brakes. you have to do both sides first then hit brakes.
