Idle speed and water leak ;(
Hello all and thanks for past replies. I have an 83 Daytona Trans am with an 350 sbc in it which was put in afterwards and i was wondering what should the idle rpm be c.a . Iīve been tinkering with the carb (which is a holley but iīm not sure of the type) and a friend of mine told me i shouldnīt alter the setting of the screw that decides how far the injection lever goes down to get the idle rpmīs that i wanted but should rather use the other settings and just leave that screw alone (i have it slightly screwed down cause the car was always dying on me on lights and such) so the car is running about 1000 rpmīs when the engine gets hot and that seems a bit high and also the ....i think itīs called an idle plate seems to be missing from the card (the plate that opens and closes the carb in some way ...is that really bad or did the guy who owned it take it out on purpose). And then there is the problem that is really bugging me... water leaks inside the car iīve managed to stop some points were the water is going in and the plan is to buy new weatherstrippings for the t-top ,doors and rear hatch when i have the money but for now i thought i could stop the leak by putting silicone around the edges of the t-top but still water seems to be leaking in. The drops i see inside of the car are approx over the middle backseat area and because there are two sheets of metal in the roof i canīt see much were the water is coming from. so i was wondering if someone has had the same problem so i could fix this (the winter here in iceland can get very messy
the only thing i could think of causing the leak now since iīve eliminated the t-top (i think) are the rear hatch hinges ,,,,could these be it ? and is there some good way to check out leaks ? Thanks to all and excuse me for any english errors |

Re: Idle speed and water leak ;(
that screw ,if its the one Im thinking of ,is on top of what they call the bowl, most holleys have 2, one in front one in back, there is another screw on the side of this bowl, you take it out start the car, then adjust the one(screw) you mentioned till a little gas comes out, that sets the float, then close it up, to set the idle theres a idle screw on the throttle cable on the side of the carb, for that, I usally set my idle for Auto trannys in drive to about
650 rpms, but chiltons says 800 rpms, others may be more help but if you do it that way it will work, its how I do mine, ps. no silcone on the t tops do something else, its self explanitory, weatherstripping, check the t top pins etc. |
