4wd, 40 mph, 1/10 Electric R/c Car

Hey peeps, I just bought this exact car from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...931905682&rd=1 Its so cool, but I have some Qs
Yesterday I was playing with it and it started smoking combined with a burning scent, yet when I checked it nothing burned. It still worked fine
Is it supposed to do that, b/c it scared the hell out of me.
Also can I put 200 mm HPI bodies on it, with new HPI wheels?
Thanks

Re: 4wd, 40 mph, 1/10 Electric R/c Car

10:1 the previous owner put a motor that is too powerful for the ESC to handle just so it would go 40, thus it will soon fry the ESC. I too have had a problem similar to this, but I just a had bad motor. Eventually you will fry your ESC, and those are not cheap. So you can do one of two things, by a less powerful motor, or by a more "powerful" ESC.

200MM bodies often look goofy on 190MM cars. Just get a 190mm body. Depending on the wheel hubs I suppose the HPI wheels will work.

If the motor is bad, or too powerful for the ESC, yes it will fry within a few runs. A new ESC, for a good one starts around $90-100, and on up from their.

All electrics are 190mm.

i know man, i've seen sum other people selling the same thing, and stating its a Taimiya look-alike. Well watever, but does this mean I can use Tamiya parts on it??Because I've been doing sum research and I found out my car has a MSC, and I found wat I think to be the perfect ESC, the Tamiya TEU 101BK ESC. It says its compatible with the 540 motor tuned motor, and its like $40-50.00 which is great. Thanks for all your helpp

Re: 4wd, 40 mph, 1/10 Electric R/c Car

If you can fit an MSC im sure you can fit and ESC as MSC's takes more room. you will notice a huge difference switching from an MSC to an ESC. But thats a slightly different topic. Make sure the ESC can handle the motor that is in your vehicle. I personally like Novak speed controllers, I have had good luck with theirs, along with Tekin, but they are kidna out of buisness now and have been for a while. LRP also makes some really nice ones.
