3 Questions About 85 4Runner

1. The purchase: 1985 4 Runner (22R-E or 22R engine) 4WD w/ high and low gears. 150k

a. Vehicle is in need of possible heater components, not to warm in the vehicle.
b. Minor rust, not extensive but definately there.
c. Cracked windshield, not to bad but still evident
d. In need of a tune up and some other possible engine components like a rebuild kit.
e. Burns 1 quart of oil each month and has a minor leak
f. Tow hitch has been torn from back of vehicle, which was used to attempt to pull large equipment and was unsuccesful.
g. Extreme dust conditions have made the automatic window in back stick, and windows stick, they however still function but the rear door will not open because of dust.
h. brake work needed

Asking price $1495

Question 1:

Based on this information would you say this is a fair purchase for both parties?

Question 2:

Has anyone here encountered an engine rebuild if so what is a good kit and is it something you can do yourself within a day? Follow up: Can a v6 fit into this vehicle?

Question 3:

Any questions I didn't ask that I should have?

IMO, don't buy it. Spend some more money (from the cost of the repairs) and get one that needs less repairs and hasn't been abused. A rebuild is not cheap.

Re: 3 Questions About 85 4Runner

It seems to drive fine. I think I'll have it checked out by a mechanic.
