89 Lincoln TC more power

i have my grandfathers 89 Towncar, with 80,000 miles on it. This car seems sluggish compared to when i drove it as a teenager, and i dont know if its the car, or im just used to my quicker V6's that i drive everyday. Also on the highway once youre set on a speed, you better be happy there, because it does not accelerate past whatever speed you are cruising at.

I want to have dual exhaust installed for the slight rumble, and for the tiny amt of hp it might add. are there any other ideas on what i could do, or what may need to be repaired. it has the normal ford 5.0 for an 89 town car.

Also this thing uses more oil than Exxon. its not leaking it, and its not smoking???????

Exhaust adds a little more to your power band but it really is not going to make the car feel faster.

This is a big car and to get moving it takes a lot of power.

Engine oil comsumption is normal like say 1 quart for every 3000 miles, if it is higher than that start checking your PCV valve and other nessecary components.

Are you driving in Overdrive and having a hard time accelerating? A minor adjustment to the TV cable might improve the feel for you. one trick to try before moving the slide adjustment is to pull the end of the cable on the TV cable out a little bit and put a small zip tie on the end to add a little bit of pressure. Take it out and see if this improves the feel any. If you like the change you can remove the tie and move the slider.

the basics are dual exhaust, different headers (try to get some from a 90 Towncar) and... well that's about it for the basics. You can do a HO swap, or just e7 heads... depends how much work you want to do. If you just wanna pick up 10-20hp just do the exhaust and get a nice rumble.

Tune up - pcv valve, the screen under it, oil change, trans flush and screen change, coolant flush (just to keep stuff flowing), O2 sensors(not something I normaly do unless I get a code) misc other sensors/valves/etc....

if it's not leaking and it's not burning it... I don't know what to tell you...
