Dyno readouts question???
I have noticed you guys state the power readouts for your cars seem a little different to those here in Australia.
For a start you say an (02) h22a in the USA is good for 160Hp at the wheels the going average in Oz is 101kw or 138hp and that is a standard Lude with 2 1/4 exhaust and pod filter on 98 Ron fuel (this has been shown on at least five different cars). Our cars are imported at 147kw or 200hp so Im wondering what type of dynos you are getting these readouts from and do they compensate for atmospheric pressure etc. It has to be your dyno readout as the performance figures stated are the same plus we run 98ron fuel. The average estimated calculation for drivetrain loss at the wheels in Austaralia is 30% Others cars are the Type R (99) 141kw or 191hp @ engine and 97kw or 132hp @ wheels, S2000 176kw or 240hp @ engine or 125kw or 170hp @ wheels, WRX Sti 195kw or 265hp @ engine and 128kw or 174hp @ wheels, BMW M3 252kw or 343hp @ engine and 172kw or 234hp @ wheels, 911 carrera 235kw or 320hp @ engine and 168kw or 228hp @ wheels. ALL ABOVE READOUTS ARE ON A DYNAMICS DYNOMETER. 1kilowatt equals 1.36hp It would be good if anyone (Fritz) could find out more so we could work out a calculation between countries.:flash:

there are two common dyno setups. the most common is the standard dyno rollers.
second, and gaining in popularity, is the dynapack solution... you jack up the car and remove the wheels, then bolt the hubs to the dynapacks. this is especially popular on AWD cars. we sometimes use a 14% correction ratio to tray and convert BHP to WHP figures to simulate transmission and drivetrain losses. this conversion is not used since the dyno itself only measures power at the wheels. 30% drivetrain loss is quite a bit. my prelude, without turbo, is rated at 195hp. on the dyno, i pulled 169.8hp at the wheels. |

Oh well
I cant work it out our cars are rated from showroom with the same power rating and our performance figures are the same so there must be something in the calculation process. All Dynos in Australia work on Kilowatts of power generated from a dyno not horsepower, so I guess unless we use the same equipment and readout method there is no basis to the above.
