Angry 4G63 Any alternatives

Aight i have a 1992 early production Eclipse with a 4g63 non turbo
i just rebuilt the stupid thing i got it all done and it ran for a few seconds and stalled then when i tried it again the started just clicked buzzed and few other noises. me knowing about the reputation with the valves i crawled under the car and tried turning the motor over manually but all heard was the timeing belt slipping i am positive the timeing belt was on perfect when i put the engine in anyone have ne input on what could be wrong or any engines i might be able to swap in that do not have a problem bending valves

Re: 4G63 Any alternatives

did you check it again after this happened to see if the timing marks were all lined up? if not then you slipped time, and probably bent valves.

Re: 4G63 Any alternatives

Turning the motor over by the cams is a bitch, and I would never recomend that. It is NOT designed to work that way, and you are very likely to skip a couple teeth if you do it the wrong way (you have to turn away from the opposite cam gear, never into it, and dont turn the motor backwards, the tensioner wont work properly).
