Headlights missing after the GM dealer fixed the.. brakes!?
Hi everybody,
I'm new on this forum. I bought a beautiful blue 1991 PA in August 2004. To be precise, I live in Luxembourg, Europe. I just want to share my experiences with you (hoping it will help you on your quest). I had some problems with the ABS. It worked OK in normal speed, but in very low speed a whirring sound was heard and if I had to hit the pedal, the brakes locked. Very annoying/dangerous indeed! I knew it was a problem in ABS. My mistake was to take it to the local GM dealer, ..... finally, I had to plug out the ABS fuse, becuse they could't make it work. Anyhow, I found out if you have a whirring sound in low speed and the brakes lock if you press the pedal, it is most likely the PMV (expensive) i.e. pressure modulator valve which is stuck, (~600 USD), in Europe it'll cost about 950 USD. What is more, the garage killed my headlights. They worked pretty well before, but after getting the car "serviced" with > 2000 USD, the bloody lights don't work anymore! cannot believe! But in summarum, it runs so smoothly, and ricers just don't play in the same league. PS. If you have an idea why headlights now look like park lights, please let me know. Hello "Neighbor"
Possible causes for the total failure of the lights: - Main battery cable broken or bad contact - Empty battery Hope that helps. Greeting from Germany. Mike

Sounds like you lost the ground connection, forcing the lights to feed through each other.

I went back to the dealer today with your advices in mind.
There was a wire (or two) which had lost ground or shorted because of humidity (the car is no more brand new). They replaced them and everything seems to work OK now! (apart form ABS, which I can do without). Thus, I wish I didn't flame that much about the GM dealer as they did some good job at the end of the day.. Many thanks for your advice. |
