I have a 93 Si hatchback civic vtech...i'm a mechanic and just recently a 91 or 92 Integra rolled in with both right side wheels smashed in. Its a right off for sure. The engine is on touch and in perfect condition, it has 100,000 kms on the dash. i always wanted to swap out my D16Z6 for something more, but money is kinda tight and engines are expensive. Well the ones i want. But this B18A1 from this integra would do me just good if the customer lets the car go to my boss.
My question is to you experts is, can this swap work? What will i need to pull it off this swap and what information can you guys give me to help me out? |

Re: D16Z6 Swap to B18A1
If your state has emissions it's illegal to swap in a motor that is older than the chassis

Re: D16Z6 Swap to B18A1
Easy swap its whats in my 93 hatch but mines a 92-93 integra motor the extra 10 hp..I would rather keep the d16 thats in it cause the b18 trannies suck ass with there syncros that go bad in 3rd 4th and 5th and its hard to find a good cheap b-series tranny..I like my b18 in the hatch but i hate getting the trannies for it my last one 3rd grinding like hell and 5th went out on I75 so i had to drive I75 going slow as hell cause i had no 5th...Your d16 its just as good somewhat..Good luck

Thanks
Didn't know swapping older engines in newer cars were a nono.....and thanks for the transmission news about the B18 engine...i think the tranny in the integra is a cable clutch set-up and my civic is a hydrolic set-up...i rather keep the hydrolic to say the truth...guess i better let this engine good and wait for somthing else? Remember this B18 only has 100K's to its name and no oil leaks? SO?
Keep it? or Let it go? |

Re: D16Z6 Swap to B18A1
The B18A1 is a good motor, but you'll lose VTEC swapping it in (DOHC non-VTEC). It's got more torque and just slightly more displacement, but you'll have to find a newer B-series transmission if you want to keep it hydraulic. The B18B1 transmission is basically the hydraulic equivalent of the transmission on the B18A1.
If the motor's free, keep it and sell the parts. I'd keep your D16Z6 for the time being. The money you spend on performing the swap could net you some good parts for your current motor. Or just put the money toward the motor you really want. That's what I'd do. Don't let "the itch" compromise your ultimate plans for the car.
