I replaced the transmission in my 92 Cherokee with a used one out of a 94. The original electrical set-up had two wires and the new one has three. I connected the two with like colors together and left the third wire unconnected. The speedomiter doesn't work. Is there something that needs to be reset when the wires are disconnected? The gears seem to be fine and every thing meshes.

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
The speed sending unit is located in the tail shaft of the transfer case, you can find old two wire sending units @ any junkyard. If you go to a dealer to get one it will cost you $45 and it is the three wire. Go to a junkyard and get a two wire for $10-$20. This happened to me recently. Good Luck

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
the fork that bolts into the transfer case should press the sending unit flush into case.

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
Is there some other fuse or relay in the system to check. It still doesn't work.

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
When mine does not work after a transfer case or transmission removal, I remove the large nut on the sending unit and spin the tires to make sure I am getting positive engagement of the plastic gear inside the transfer case. You can tell by holding your finger on the end and you can fill the end of it spin, this is round on the outside and square on the inside make sure the electrical end you took off is still square. But to answer your question I did not find any info on a fuse or any type of relay. Good Luck
