Opinion on this turbo, I found used.

Hey I was looking through the Japanese yahoo aution and found a Evo1 16g. Or atleast i think its a 16g. It has a pritty banged up actuator, so do you think it would affect it? How does the turbo look? do you think i should bid on it? Its really cheap right now, its 2900 yen which is about $29 (rough estimit). So what do you guys think?

I couldn't read the Japanese, but that looks like a 14b to me...

14b and 16g are indentical from the outside, with no pic of the compressor wheel its impossible to tell. Atuators are a dime a dozen. I know I have several laying aroud. They are the same between 14b/16g and similar turbos. the only iffy part is buyng a turbo that you cant personally check the pay on. I try to buy locally so I can put an eyball on it before I buy.

I'm pritty sure its a 16g because in Japan, I dont think there are any 14b's. But if its cheap do you think i should go for it? Maby around 50 or 60 bucks?

Hell, why not? If you can get it that cheap, it would be an amazing deal on a 16g. You could even get it rebuilt for under the cost of a new 16g, if it is blown, or if you can rebuilt it yourself, have an essentially new turbo for the price of an install kit.

Yea, no problem man! If you decide to buy it be sure and let us know how it turns out. Out of curiousity...you do know how to read Japanese, don't you?

I mean, in the item description for all we know, it could say "turbo is blown, needs rebuild, no wheels included" lol. Just try and get the best idea of what you're buying as possible--shoot the guy an email if you can write Japanese, and ask him about mileage, shaft play, etc.

lol yea i know how to read Japanese. But if i wont it my dad in Japan will have to bid on it for me. Then he will have to bring it over with him in Nov. when he comes.

Whether it's a 14b or a 16g, for less than $100 it's a good deal IMO. You're also getting a Jpipe out of it, which you would probably shell out $15-20 for shipped individually from somewhere else (more if you buy new from a retailer). You'll still need an oil feed and return line, if those aren't included with the turbo, but you should be able to reuse your stock water lines.

Ok, i didnt get the last turbo but i found another one. I didnt wont to make another thread so ill use my old one. This turbo looks good but i have one question. Why is the turbin so black?

Same reason the inside of your exhaust is black --carbon deposits
