need help installing fan belt on 93 ranger

Hey guys,... I'm new to this forum but glad to be here. I'm working on changing out my water pump on my 3.0 litre engine on my 93 ranger truck. I tried to look at the route before taking the belt off, but now can't get the routing to work. Can anyone help with a "how to" route the long belt on this thing please?

Thanks,...Steven

I didn't see it on the truck but will look. Now, I'm into the thing more and having trouble with getting the one bolt top right in the water pump out of it. looks like I'm going to have to remove the compressor and power steering pumps off the thing with the valve cover stopping the bolts also. Man,..this thing has whooped me good today. starting again in the morning.

Thanks,...Steven

Re: need help installing fan belt on 93 ranger

I just replaced the water pump on my 1990 Ranger 2.9L. I thought about loosening the A/C compressor and P/S motor to get the belts back on. But, that wasn't necessary. I just did not bolt the water pump pulley on until after I routed the belts through. With the pulley pushed off center toward the A/C and P/S plants and tilted in on the alternator side I could slip the belts on and then move the pulley over far enough to get an upper or lower bolt input the pulley. Then I turned the pulley to force the bolted side to the alternator side where the tension was.

Re: need help installing fan belt on 93 ranger

Thanks guys,...I finally finished the water pump last night. What a job man! I had to practically remove the air compressor and power steering assembly to get to one last bolt in the water pump. Ha! but things went much better once the pump came off. when it cam time to install the belt, I looked down at the skematic and it went on very easy with taking my ratchet to the tension device to let the belt slip on then once on all the pullies I released it and it was on. whoo wheee!!! now I have to deal with sore arms and back! Ha!

Thanks for your help,...Steven
