One Headlight Brighter Than The Other...
Hi All,
Just a bit of background - last year, I had a faulty alternator (which has since been replaced), which produced surges of current, which were quite powerful, in which everything electrically-powered, from the lights to the fan, went overboard. Lights went really bright, fan was blowing like mad! Those surges lasted a second or two, no more. Anyways - since then, the right hand light bulb always seemed a bit weaker than the left. I assumed it was an old bulb and the problem would fix itself when I put in new bulbs. I recently put in Sylvania Silverstars (to anyone considering the upgrade : I haven't tried the other aftermarket bulbs, but these are a vast improvement indeed), but I still have the same problem. So my questions : 1. Could my surges have damaged my wires and made it so that not enough current is getting to the right bulb? 2. Is there some kind of a "dimmer" or rheostat for the headlights where I can control the intensity and adjust it? One more thing - when I changed the bulbs, I noticed that the LEFT one had some black residue on it, on the inside. So perhaps it's that one that's burning TOO bright? Thanks! |

Re: One Headlight Brighter Than The Other...
well it is definitely do to the wires. most likely it is the ground off of the dimmer bulb is fried. try following the ground wire off of the bulb about 6" back from the bulb, and splice into it. if the wire strands inside are black, then it's fried. if not, then check the positive on that light. try your brights first though. since they both run on the same ground (his and lows), then if the right bright is also dimmer then, it's the ground, but if it's equal to the left, then it's the positive on your right that is bad. let me know how it turns out.
