Wanting to lower my car....What to do?

I am wanting to lower my 98 civic with some white Traffik rims. Should I go with Lowering springs and a camber kit or go with Coilovers? What is the most affordable and best choice?

With any of these two choices, I think getting some struts would also be required sooner or later. I think you should go with the coil overs and a camber kit if you are lowering more than 2 inches. 2 inches is what I have heard but maybe someone actually knows, so If anyone does know, coorect me so I'll learn.

2 inches is right. Tein Coilovers are cheap and quality pieces, there is like no reason to go with springs and shocks these days.

It's first time to post here.

If you lower the suspension over 2 inches, you probably will get -1~-2 degree of camber that will cause the incorrect treadwear on your tires.

Of course, the camber kit could solve the problems. However, the camber is also the most important thing for improving the holding capability in corners. There is another way to do with the camber.
You could adjust the Toe -1~-2 degree to make it in toe-in status which could not only help you to reduce the inside treadwear on your tires, it but also could keep the camber in -1~-2 degree. Then you could still keep the better corner handling and keep the inside treadwear problems in minimum.

Question: I recently did the washer trick to fix a really bad camber problem on my rear passenger side...I put about 3 2mm washers for every screw (it was really bad) and now that side seems to have a bit of positive camber but just a tiny bit...should having this small bit of positive camber (i think) cause premature wear on the outside of my tires?...

EDIT: Not meaning to hijack your thread or anything 98civic but they've basically answered your question and "rabbit's leg" reminded me of my question...

In this case, I don't recommend you keep your positive camber because it not only causes the premature wear on the outside of your tires, but also could pull down your cornering performance.

If your negative camber was too bad, you could do what I just mentioned. I have lowered my civic 2.25-inch then I got a serious premature wear problem with my tires inside. My one of friend, who owns a tire shop in Taiwan, told me that I could just keep the negative camber and adjust the tow-in around 1 degree to reduce the inside premature wear. That really works!! Now, because of the LA huge speed bumper, I have to higher my suspension 1in than when I was in Berkley.

agreed

if u want to go sleeve type coilovers get ground control and some nice shocks(nothing cheap). im personaly gona try the omni power sleeve coilover in a bit see how those do.
if u have a little bit more money but dont want to go too much get some teins or omnipower full coilover. www.kteller.com has some nice prices for the omni.

ok question 2...I only have H&R springs on now...when i get to the states in november i plan to buy some KYB AGX's would they do anything to straighten up my tires to decrease premature wear?or would they jus stiffen up the suspenion

they'll just increase the stiffness. The best thing they'll do for you, is that you can stiffen them up all the way so that when you carry heavy loads it won't camber out your tires even more. You need a camber kit to fix your camber

1.The shocks only could hold the springs to prevent the jumping movement.

2.If you really want to fix the camber problem, you have two ways to do:

(1)Camber Kit,
(2)Toe-in => around -1~-2

However, you need to see the real camber angle on your suspension then get the correct adjustment.

BTW, which level of B&R springs you are using now?
OE sport? Sport? or RACE?

I think should be Race level because of the camber.....

I just want to let you know that I have used H&R race springs without camber kit, but I still could keep the tire treadwear in ok status with -1.5 toe-in degrees.
