Is the rumor true?

My wife tells me that she heard on the Radio today that in California if you get caught Street Racing they confiscate your car and crush it. Fact or fiction?

Re: Is the rumor true?

I thought they confiscated cars in lots of states, seems stupid to crush it when they could sell them at auction like normal confiscated cars.

I believe its license suspension, a decently sized fine and your car gets impounded (dunno for how long)

If your caught street racing in los angeles county your car will be confiscated and you have 30 days to get it out of impound, if after that 30 days your car is still in impound it will either be sold at a lien sale or crushed. But this is a local ordinance for los angeles county only, in other countys your license may be suspended or your car may be impounded. Hope this helps, i got woried about it to.

Re: Is the rumor true?

Bad times, In minnesota i dunno if you you've heard of that guy that went 205mph on his crotch rocket, he is going to be able to drive again..i'm sure he can't get a motorcycle license but nonetheless, he's still dangerous on two or four wheels...we don't have very harsh penalties...

Re: Is the rumor true?

Eventually everyone has to stop. As for the laws, it is the worst possible penalty you can get. Around here is is heavy fine with points on liscense, or short suspension, depending on the situation.

Rocket

The airplane was having a tough time keeping up. The guy on the bike said he was doing around 175mph but the plane said 205, he was on a 1000xx Honda. Bet we would not have heard about it if he did get away.

Re: Is the rumor true?

I thought crotch rockets where the little ones with like 50cc motors....top speed ofl ike 70mph...not 205...

In addition:
I saw this video. it hella insane. all you see is the motor cycle guage cluster and the road. its sitting at 70mph. you can hear a little turbo wine but it isnt spooled and the guy is in 6th (digital gear display) and sitting at 2800RPM... he downshifts to 3rd and you hear that turbo spool. nexthing you know he is at 10,000RPM and shifting into 4th, 2seconds later he is at 10,000RPM agian and hits 5th. at this point he is going 215 and the speedometer stops at 250mph. goes all the way through 5th and by the time he gets into 6th the spedo is flat lined...he gets to 8900RPM in 6th and the camera looks up then back down at the cluster... he was accelerating so fast that the speedo looked more like a slow revving engine's tach than a speedometer. im geusing he was going about 270-280 before he let off. i didnt know thoes bike engines could make enough power to reach thoes speeds that quickly. if ican find a link to this video i will deff post it.

Re: Is the rumor true?

never heard of a airplane being used in a chase,i was watching police wildest chase videos one day, they only show that dont get away, and these 2 guys stole a porsche and were outrunning the helicopter on the highway and the ground units couldnt keep up,then they turned on surface streets and got caught, but the narrator said they would of probably gotten away if they stayed on the highway

Re: Is the rumor true?

I heard this rumor too. I have a friend who told me that if you get caught street racing, your car can or will be crushed. He said that they gave a clip of the first car being cruched. He said it was a camaro.

Re: Is the rumor true?

I've never heard of that, and I live in cali. That penalty is too harsh, unless its a speed chace...
